Thirsty Faith

By:  Rachel Allen Dillon

Finding light.
The horses put all of their faith in their leader
as she guides them to water in the desert.
          Warm ocher.
Thirsty blue.
The shadows of the canyon wall are like looming
                                       and
                                             imprisoning traps.
            Thirsty.
                        Light.

- I wrote this yesterday when I was at a writer/art workshop at the Crocker Art Museum. It was inspired by the painting I saw in one of the exhibits.

Second Session Art Work

My Second Session of art camp was a big group with a variety of ages; grades 2nd - 7th. On the last day of camp we set up for the art show. It was the first time my students dove in to help me hang all of their art. As I ripped tape into small pieces for the students I paired up the younger students with the older students. The room buzzed with activity and chatter and team work. The show went up and the students stepped back to admire their work and the other student's pieces. I was moved by the moment to feel their enthusiasm and pride in what they accomplished.

First Art Camp Session

Acrylic Painting
Here are some examples of art projects from the first kid's art camp last week. We utilized so many mediums from acrylic to oil pastels. We worked on layering and perspective. Each child had the opportunity explore their creative side and expand on ideas and concepts presented to them.

We also had fun on breaks getting to know my two desert tortoise babies.
